Department of Medical Lab Technology

Medical Laboratory Technology is an allied health profession dedicated to diagnosing and preventing diseases through clinical laboratory investigations. This field combines theoretical knowledge and practical training, equipping students to accurately detect and diagnose various health conditions.

Students in this program gain expertise in collecting samples, conducting tests, analyzing results, and maintaining detailed reports and documentation. As Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs), they perform chemical, hematological, immunological, microscopic, and bacteriological analyses of body fluids. Their role also involves validating equipment, performing calibrations, implementing quality controls, and analyzing statistical data to ensure accurate results.

During clinical rotations, students experience hands-on training in each laboratory discipline, performing diagnostic tests under supervision in real-world settings. Though these clinical rotations are not financially compensated, students work approximately 40 hours per week for 52 weeks during their final year, gaining valuable experience equivalent to that of a full-time employee.

At Government Polytechnic Morni, MLT students are trained to become specialists capable of conducting advanced analyses in their chosen fields. Successful completion of the academic curriculum is followed by a mandatory internship, which is essential for obtaining the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
